Ribbon Lady
Recently I hosted a swap with my In My Vintage Room and Beyond group.
The theme for the swap was to make a Ribbon Lady.
Here is my lady.....
I have to say I am really pleased with the way she came out.
I used my Character Construction Stamps "Time Keepers Garden"
colored her with my Copic markers, trimed her with hand dyed seam binding
(dyed with Tim Holtz Destressed Stains) used Prima flowers on her hat and,
is holding a metal birdcage not sure where I got it, but the bling
was from Michaels (dollar bins), and again I am not sure of who makes
the wooden birds (on the cage her waist and hat).

Copic Certification
Part 2
The beginning of May I went back to the Boston area for the
2013 Color and Ink Workshop with Copic Markers.
Day one we played with Copic Ink refills and markers, learning many different techniques such as painting, coloring and airbrushing. I used stencils and stamps on metals, canvas and porous tiles, along with several types of papers learning how the ink takes to the different surfaces.

Metal and plastic (shrinky dink) pushing ink with air
Air Brushing
Coloring on Canvas
Day two was a full day of coloring. I learned how to blend and color various ethnic skin tones. I also learned how to use shading and different brush strokes to get different effects for the
various hair styles.
Some skin tones and hair color and styles are harder to do than other, but lots of practice will make it
easier as you can see by my coloring I will be doing lots of practicing.
In March I traveled to Boston, Mass with two friends
(Laura and Annette) to get Standard and Intermediate Certification with Copic Markers.
What this simply
means is that we can now teach others the theory behind the product
knowledge and blending techniques of coloring with
these high quality alcohol-based
ink markers.
Although, I now possess this knowledge to
properly color with these markers, I still need to practice, practice, practice
The first time I used these markers, I was told when purchasing Copic’s if I
purchased 3 markers in each of the color families that would be all you needed. But while taking the certification classes I
soon learned that this isn’t exactly true. Yes the 3 color family is a good rule, but you
also need warm and cool colors for blending and shading. So do you need all 358 colors that the Copic’s
come in, my answer is yes of course I do......
I have decided to go
back to Boston in May to take a two day advanced workshop to expand my
knowledge of what I learned in the standard and intermediate classes.

My Tim Holtz Adventure
This past weekend I traveled 3hrs with my friend Laura Casey,
to a quaint little town in Connecticut called Old Staybrook, where one of it's local Scrapbooking stores Beautiful Impressions hosted a event featuring Tim Holtz.

I have to say for me, what a thrill it was to have the opportunity to meet and take two classes
from the awesome Tim Holtz
Mario Rossi, Mary Castilla, Maura Hibbitts, Tim Holtz, Me and Laura Casey.
(Maura and Mary joined us Saturday for the afternoon class).
Now not only were the classes being taught by Tim, we were also right on the ocean.
It was a cold windy day in Ct. but really does it get any better... Tim, good friends. and the ocean.
In the morning class we worked on a small Journal Book called
Journeys of the Past
Tim showed us the techniques he used to create this little work of art using his
stains, inks and paints and stamps.
Getting started
The really nice part of taking his classes is that everything you need to make this project is in kit form it's all cut to size, and all supplies and product are provided for you, all you need to bring to class is yourself and your creativity which isn't hard when being inspired by Tim

My tags are inked, stained, distressed and ready to embellish and assemble.
Lunch Break
Mary and Maura joined me for a box lunch, we decided to eat outside but it was
a little cold and windy. (oh where is Mary.)

Second Round
The Sample Configuration Book

Getting
Started
(Thanks Maura for sharing Pictures) my batteries died in camera
The configuration Book was fun to work on, once we covered all the surfaces and inked them we were ready to embellish again.
In this little box is Tim's new lantern, it's battery powered, Tim showed us his little secret to hide the battery pack...who would of thought..but that's why he's the GURU....lol.
I had 5hrs to work on my book but honestly I did not get it completed, I am not sure it anyone did but that's OK I don't think you were expected to complete it. The class was more to teach you techniques. And have FUN.
Tim walking around the class answering questions and helping.

End of a long day
All packed up and headed on to the next step of Tim and Mario's New England Journey.

Art work for a couple swaps for May
Miriam from my In My Vintage Room and Beyond Group hosted a
April Showers brings May Flowers Swap
she provided us with the postcard she wanted us to use to create our art work on.
I used G45's new Secret Garden paper line, Catherine Moore's Character Construction stamp set Timekeeper's Garden to design my postcard.
I also used Flower Soft to accent the flowers, and Glossy Accent on the dragonfly and fairy wings. And Copic Markers to color the stamps.
************
Character Construct is another group of very talented ladies from all over the US and I believe there are a couple ladies from Germany that swap with us also...the theme for our May swap is Steampunk.
On these #8 Ranger black tags I first embossed the tags with a Tim Holt's embossing folder that has Time Pieces on it. I then used his Distress Inks, Stains and Metallic Paints to highlight the embossing along with the the chipboard gears and time pieces I used that were cup from the stop watch and small gears movers and sharpers dies. I glued plastic clock faces and hands on them (from my statch, not sure who makes them) then put glossy accents on the faces to make it look like they have the glass crystals on them. I also used some of Tim's small metal gears along with some charms and bling I had in my statch to add to the steampunk theme. I used Character Construction Stamps from the new 2013 Timekeeper's Garden Collection by Catherine Moore.

CC-Time Keepers Garden Swap
The calender says it's Spring, but I still have a couple snow piles in my yard that say different.
. So when I was working on the Character Construct Spring Swap titled:
The Time Keepers Garden
I made sure I used lots of spring colors so I would be reminded that it really is spring.
I combined a page from G45's A Secret Garden for the background, Characters Construct's
new stamp collection Time Keepers Garden and my Copic markers.
