Halloween Banner

Everyone that knows me knows how much I love Halloween, so when I was asked to make a Halloween Banner how could I refuse.  Here is what I did ...

Graphic 45 By the Sea Paper Collection

I was asked to make a book using Graphic 45 By The Sea Paper Collection,
Having made my book,  I was then asked if  I would teach a class on how I made it.

To make the base of the book I used 8 pieces of  8" x 8"  Bazzell Black Medium Weight Chipboard, 3 pieces of black card stock cut to 8" x 12" and 1 roll of 1/2" scor-tape. I cut one of the 8" x 8" chipboard pieces to 3" x 8".  The spine of the book is made with the accordion fold method, using the 3" x 8" chipboard piece and 1 piece of the 8" x 12" card stock scored every 1/2".  To give the cover a unique look I cut the first 3 chipboard pages  to graduated widths each  1" shorter, the front cover being the shortest. I then finished building the book with the rest of the chipboard and card stock.
Once the base of the book was finished I used the 12" x 12"  G45 papers and covered the pages. I embellished the book using the 8" x 8" papers fussy cutting different parts of the papers and layering to give it a dimensional feeling.  I also embellished with shells, charms, cording, netting and what ever else I could find that went along with the theme of the book.  I also used Tim Holt's recipe for faux sand in the book. 
  

I used Rangers Inkessentials Glue and Seal on the front cover and all the embellishments in the book to protect them.  This gives it a coating so your paper embellishments won't rip when flipping through you book.

Kaila and my Craft day

My niece Kaila wanted to spend the day crafting with me.

She wanted to make a page for her moms friends baby

So with my help this is what we made.

 

We used my Brother Cut N Scan machine to cut out the word BABY from pink cardstock

and the baby's name CARYS from green cardstock. The bib and bottle were cut from scraps

of the pink, cream  and green cardstock used. 

We then added a floral paper behind the cut out letters and a 3" strip across the center of the layout, and glued on some cotton lace and pink ribbon rose trim I had in my stash.

We cut 3 photo mats the first one 4" x 6"  starting with cream cardstock the second 4 1/4" x 6 1/4" from pink cardstock and the third  4 1/2" x 6 1/2" from the green cardstock layering them. 

We then added some pearl bling and we were finished.

 

We also did another layout for Kaila's little dog CoCo which also came out really cute but

I forgot to take a picture of it.  Thanks KK for a fun day.

Carols Bear

A very dear friend of mine was finishing the hand sewing on her miniature bear 

at a group we belong to called Nimble Fingers. This bear is just the sweetest little thing. 

Winnie of the women that attends our group said the bear needs cloths, Carol (my friend)

looked at me and laughingly and said you can get on that, so I did.  

I found some cotton crochet thread I had and a size 10 crochet hook and set out creating this cute little outfit for her bear..

I love doing things like this, and am honored Carol asked to make her bear clothes.

Curiosity shop

Graphic 45 Papers are probably my very favorite paper Line.

When ever I decide to do a project I can count on G45 to inspire me.

This album I did for myself, I am planning on putting some vintage photos

in it,  just haven't found the right ones yet.

This particular line from G45 is the Old Curiosity Shop I love it because it's a bit

steampunk and whimsy mixed together but just the right amount.

The basics of the book are made with Bazzill Black Medium Weight Chipboard,

 I used 4 sheets cut to 6" x 12" this gives me 8 pages.

 I then cut 7 of the 6" x 12" pages in half again so I will now have 14  6" x 6" pages.

You will be working  with 1 6" x'12" and 14 6" x 6" pages.

You also need 1 4" x 6" piece of chipboard for the spine. And 4 sheets of black cardstock.

I used the according fold binding on both the right and left side of the book. 

 

Once I have the binding finished on my book I can then start to work on the pages.

I choose to do both the right side and left side of the base papers alike coordinating the

embellishments from page to page.

 

As the book opens you will have 4 6"x6" pages to cover and embellish,

2 on the right 2 on the left.
 I did the outer right and left pages with the same papers, and coordinated different papers

for the right and left inner pages.

I used lace, flowers and all kinds of miscellaneous trinkets I had in my stash to embellish the pages as I went along.

 This is my very favorite page in the book it is the back page the 6" x 12" page.  I had the small

wooden box in the center from some wooden embellishments that came in it. (I think they were  from Prima). There are lots of trinkets, charms and laces in the shadowbox some are from Tim Holtz, some are Refelections and Prima.  Most of the flowers I think are Prima's flowers.

I am so pleased with the way this album has turned out, so far I think it's my favorite.

Paris Book

My niece Melissa came to my house one day with a Michaels bag

full of papers and embellishments, she asked if I wouldn't make

her a Paris Album.

Of course I told her I would be happy to.

I will admit it did take me several months before I started it, I wasn't sure

just what I wanted to do, if I should make a traditional scrapbook

or a altered one.

I decided to do an altered one, for a couple reasons

1st - Melissa hasn't been to Paris yet and I didn't want to leave it without photos

2nd - by doing a alter album I could really get creative.

The album is made of chipboard and what is called an accordion fold binding.
I then covered the album in Paris themed tissue paper with Rangers Glue and Seal.

         A fold out album within the larger album held close with a mini belt.       

           

There are 8 pages in the album including the front and back cover, it's size is 6" x 12"

the pages are wrapped with 12" x12" papers this just gave the edges a finished look.

I used coordinating colors of card stock to make my photo mats.  Embellishments

are Prima Flowers, Jolee Stickers, some cotton laces and trim I had, Tim Holtz 

chipboard letter, keys and assorted other findings that I also had.

As you can see there was plenty of room for pictures and embellishments.

I used pictures I found on the internet and her families

photos that were taken locally in one of our parks to make it look like

she could have been in Paris.

I am very pleased with how this came out and I know Melissa was really surprise

with it also.

I am very proud to say I have been asked by several people to give a class

on how to make this book.  I am in the planning stages now to do this

sometime in the early fall 2014.
